“Grief is itself a medicine”
“The heart that breaks open can contain the whole universe”
Grief is always, in some way accompanying us. Grief is our communal bond, yet so many people speak of grief and loneliness. We have lost the essence of community and grief rituals. When our grief cannot be spoken, it falls into the shadow and re-arises in the body as symptoms.
Grief tending and ritual provides us with the elements to help transform whatever it is we are carrying, weather that’s fear, grief, anger, shame. When women gather in community to tend to our grief the river of sorrow slows down. It slows enough for us to feel it and that is when the healing begins, both collectively and personally.
Grief tending circle elements include:
Somatics
Healing happens when we tend to the bodies whispers of grief.
We will come home to our body through somatic practices, embodied awareness and the nervous system. Exploring how the body wants to move the energy of grief. Helping to connect with the body’s expression of grief through titration and pendulation.
Connection
We come together in community to welcome our grief and connect with loss. While also connecting with nature for additional support.
Ritual
‘‘Rituals have the potency to mend what has been torn and heal what has been neglected’’
We are creatures of ritual, but have long forgotten the ways in which ritual can heal our sorrows and grief.
Grief rituals play a crucial role in helping us navigate the emotional turmoil of loss. Rituals allow us to create space to express a wide range of emotions, from sadness and anger to love and gratitude. We will be exploring this through dance and nurturing earth ritual practices.
Rest and heart opening practices
‘‘In rest and reflection, a new inspiration can be found.’’
Rest provides us with nourishment and integration. To support our hearts we will be working with Rose. Rose helps us to find balance once again within our self. The softness of Rose creates the ability for us to hold our own tenderness with a gentle hand. Helping us to realize our own compassion for ourselves and the world around us. Rose can help soften our grief.
As the wheel of the year turns towards autumn, this is an opportunity for releasing and composting the past, creating space for beauty, and opening to the transformative power. So my invitation is to gather in community with like minded women around Autumn equinox with the support of mother nature. Nature reminds us that death is a natural part of the cycle of life, providing us with a frame of reference. Nature can offer us profound healing during times of mourning. In times of grief, the healing power of nature and community can provide hope and comfort.
